Tilting Strategy

This section enables you to find the optimal direction based on the maximum stock/material that can be machined. Three modes are available:

Automatic Automatic machining searches the unmachined areas and processes them according to the maximum increment angle, maximum stock to leave, and maximum tilt range. Based on these parameters, machining is performed from all possible indexed directions.
Semi automatic Semi-automatic mode enables you to start machining from a preferred direction. You can edit the values of maximum angle increment, maximum stock to leave and maximum tilt range parameters.
Manual When this mode is selected, you can choose to machine only from the directions added by you or the tool plane. The part is machined in the chosen directions according to the maximum reach of the tool.

Directions

You can set the Machining Direction in this section. This option is disabled when Automatic is selected in Tilting Strategy. Right-click inside the direction table. The right-click menu is displayed.

Add

You can Add machining directions using:

  • Select...

Selecting this option displays the Pick Edge or Face dialog box.

Select the Edge or Face on the SolidCAM model. The selected Edge or Face is displayed in the Direction field. You can reverse the selected direction using .

  • Along +X, -X, +Y, -Y, +Z, -Z axis

You can select the Machining Direction along +X, -X, +Y, -Y, +Z, -Z axis.

  • 2 Points direction

Selecting this option displays the Select first point dialog box. After selecting the first point, click the Select second point dialog box is displayed. Select the second point and click .

  • Along user defined direction

Selecting this option displays the Direction dialog box. Define the direction vectors by its coordinates (dX, dY and dZ parameters).

The Table is populated with the Directions selected.

You can move the rows up or down using .

Replace

This command is used to replace a Machining Direction with a different type of Machining Direction. The selected Machining Direction Type is disabled in the right-click menu.

Reverse

This command is used to reverse the Direction of Machining.

Edit

This command is used to Edit the Direction vectors.

Delete

This command is used to delete a selected Machining Direction.

Delete All

This command deletes all the Machining Directions in the table.

 Max. Increment Angle

For each unmachined zone, the tool is rotated in increments defined by Max. Increment angle value to find the best direction to machine the entire unmachined stock without gouging the neighboring walls.

Max. stock to leave

In this parameter, the defined value works according to the iterative algorithm. After each iteration it finds the next unmachined area and finds an indexed direction to machine the area. If the area detected is smaller than the Max. stock to leave value, the tool path calculation is terminated.

Max. Tilt angle

The value specified in this field, is the angle from the main machining direction in which the tilt search is conducted. It depends on the machine kinematics and the work-holding.

Use constraint boundaries

This section is enabled when Tilting strategy is selected as Manual. Select the Use constraint boundaries check box to enable the available boundary parameters.

This section enables you to define a new boundary geometry or choose an already defined one from the list.

  • New displays the appropriate dialog box for the geometry definition.

  • Edit displays the Geometry Edit dialog box enabling you to choose the chains for the boundary. The chosen boundaries are displayed and highlighted in the graphic window.

  • Clicking this button displays the Browse Geometries dialog box that lists all the geometries of the type suitable for the chosen operation.

  • Show displays the edge curves in the SOLIDWORKS window.
