Turret


Turret is a tool holder that allows multiple cutting operations to be performed, each with a different cutting tool, in easy, rapid succession, with no need for the operator to perform in between setup tasks, such as installing or uninstalling tools, nor to control the tool path. The latter is due to the face that the tool path is controlled by the machine, either in jig-like fashion, via the mechanical limits placed on it by the turret's slide and stops, or via electronically directed servomechanisms for computer numerical control (CNC).

There are three types of Turrets:

  • Linear
  • Rotary
  • Spindle

Turret Info

By clicking the Turret name, you can display the essential turret information in the right pane of the dialog box.

Name

Type in the Turret name. The name is used during a Submachine pair definition.

Turret Number

Type in the Turret number. If your machine has several devices of same type (for example, a Mill-Turn machine with several turrets), each device should be assigned with a unique device number.

Catalog No.

Type in the catalog number of the Turret. You can refer to the Machine Catalog Number.

Options

Double-click the Value field to browse and edit the parameters in a separate page

Turret Type

Choose one of three options–Linear, Rotary, Spindle.

Main Pivot Point

Enter the pivot point value if Turret is located on rotary axis.

Min Angle Step Around Spindle Axis(deg)

For multiple tool holders usage, choose the rotation angle (in degrees) of the turret around Spindle. This parameter is used mainly by an Index type

Tool Check Position

Enter the coordinates of the position at which the tool measurement is performed

Tool Change Time(sec)

Enter the time period required for changing the tool

Tool Change Direction (Rotary Type)

Choose the turret direction for a tool change from the list:

  1. CW–Tool magazine will rotate in CW direction

  2. CCW–Tool magazine will rotate in CCW direction

  3. SHORT–Tool magazine will choose the shortest from two above-mentioned options (CW/CCW)

Rotary Turret Axis (Rotary Type)

Enter the Turret’s Rotation Axis Vector (according to Machine Coordinate System)

Rotary Turret Axis Name (Rotary Type)

Enter the Turret axis name that is used in the Machine Simulation

Number of Tools in Magazine

Enter the number of tools in the magazine

Number of Tool Stations

Enter the amount of tools stations

Number of Axes

Displays the number of axes in current device (for information only).

Tool Change Time parameter is important for accurate assessment of machining time.
