Edge Trimming
SolidCAM's Edge Trimming operation efficiently machines the parts that require edge trimming to get their final shape. Edge trimming operation is highly automated algorithm to create a tool path for the edge trimming of thin materials. The Edge trimming calculation strategy is designed for the edge trimming of thin materials. The position of the tool relative to the geometry can be defined by various options from only a 3-axis output to a more complex 5-axis output with different tool axis orientation options. The biggest advantage of this this operation is the axial shift where the tool can be engaged with a certain value into the material. The edge trimming can be automated, or user defined. The strategy offers a variety of corner handling functions to create a smooth tool path. |

Adding an Edge Trimming Operation
In SolidCAM Manager, right-click the Operations header and choose Add Milling Operation > Edge Trimming menu to add a Edge Trimming operation to your CAM-Part. The Sim 5x Edge Trimming operation dialog box is displayed.
Parameter pages
The parameters of the Edge Trimming operation are divided into a number of subgroups. The subgroups are displayed in a tree format on the left side of the Operation dialog box. When you click a subgroup name in the tree, the parameters of the selected subgroup appear on the right side of the dialog box.
Geometry - The Geometry page enables you to define the 3D model geometry for the SolidCAM Edge Trimming operation.
Tool - The Tool page of the Edge Breaking operation is similar to the Tool page of other Sim 5-Axis Milling operations. The Edge trimming operation currently supports End mill, Bull Nose Mill and Ball Nose Mill tools.
Levels - The Levels page of the Edge Trimming operation dialog box is similar to the Levels page of other Sim 5-Axis Milling operations. However, in Edge Trimming operation the option of Automatic is not available as the Clearance Type.
Tool path parameters - The Tool path parameters page enables you to define the parameters of finish machining.
Tool axis control - The Tool axis control page enables you to define the orientation of the tool axis for the Edge trimming operation.
Gouge check - The Gouge check and Clearance data pages are similar to the Edge Breaking operation.
Machine control - The Machine control page of the Edge Breaking dialog box is similar to the Machine control page of other Sim 5-Axis Milling operations.
Misc. parameters -The Misc. parameters page of the Edge Breaking dialog box is similar to the Misc. parameters page of Multiaxis Machining operation.
