Automatic CAM-Part definition

SolidCAM provides you with a number of features aimed to automate the process of the CAM-Part definition. Using these features enables you to avoid a number of routine steps during the CAM-Part definition and perform them automatically.

This page enables you to control the automatic CAM-Part definition features.

You can define the automatic settings separately for each of the Milling, Mill-Turn and Turning modules.

Definition of CNC-Controller

  • Use default CNC-Controller (skip controller selection)

When this check box is selected and the CAM-Part definition is performed automatically, SolidCAM enables you to skip the controller selection by using the CNC-Controller defined on the Default CNC-Controller page of the SolidCAM Settings dialog box.

Definition of CoordSys

  • Don't show CoordSys manager after MAC1 Pos1

When this check box is selected, SolidCAM enables you to shorten the CoordSys definition by avoiding the CoordSys Manager dialog box after the first CoordSys definition. This option is useful when defining CAM-Parts that use only one Coordinate System.

When this check box is not selected, SolidCAM displays the CoordSys Manager dialog box after the first CoordSys definition. The CoordSys Manager enables you to define an additional Coordinate System. This option is useful when defining CAM-Parts that use several Coordinate Systems.

  • Create MAC1-1 Pos1 automatically

When this check box is selected, SolidCAM enables you to skip the step of CoordSys creation.

You can choose one of the following options for defining the MAC 1 (1-Position):

  • Top corner of Stock/Model Box

  • Top center of Stock/Model Box

  • In CAD origin

  • In CAD CoordSys with name

In CAD CoordSys name enter the name of the CAD Coordinate System you want to use for creation of the CAM Coordinate System. SolidCAM automatically creates the CAM CoordSys in the exact location of the CAD CoordSys. If the name entered in the text field does not match one of the CAD CoordSys names, then this step will not be skipped and you will have to manually create MAC 1 (1-Position) in the CAM-Part definition.

Use opposite side of the model

When this check box is selected, SolidCAM chooses the opposite side of the model for the CoordSys definition. This action is similar to clicking the Change to opposite button in the Coordsys dialog box.

This option is available only for Coordinate Systems created automatically on the Top corner or Top center of Stock/Model Box.

Create machine setup

This option enables you to automatically add an initial Machine Setup to the SolidCAM Manager at the start of the operations tree. The default name is Setup and it contains all available machine tables and related information.

Definition of Stock

This option enables you to automatically define the Stock model either by a 3D Box or a Cylinder around the Z during the CAM-Part definition. SolidCAM detects and defines Stock when model consists of two bodies and where one body is fully contained in the other. The Stock model is based on all solid bodies and surfaces of the DesignModel component of the CAM-Part assembly.

  • Add 3D sketch to CAD model

This option enables you to add a 3D sketch to the CAD model.

Definition of Target

This option enables you to automatically define the Target model during the CAM-Part definition. SolidCAM detects and defines Target when model consists of two bodies and where one body is fully contained in the other. The Target model is based on all the solid bodies and/or surfaces of the DesignModel component of the CAM-Part assembly.
