iMachining 3D Operation

Compared to traditional 3D high speed milling strategies, iMachining 3D operations significantly reduce programming time via a super-simplified Operation definition process in combination with the knowledge-based Technology Wizard of iMachining 2D. In addition to its savings in programming time, every iMachining 3D operation can save up to 90% in machining time.

A single iMachining 3D operation can be defined to perform the roughing and rest roughing of an entire 3D part. All the volumes requiring removal are subdivided into milling regions. Sophisticated analysis algorithms are used to determine the optimal order of Step down (roughing) and Step-up (rest roughing) tool path passes. By achieving its unique local machining feature, iMachining 3D is able to eliminate almost all retracts and long position moves. With its full-depth Step down, intelligent Step-up and its smart positioning, iMachining 3D achieves the shortest possible cycle time for roughing, rest roughing and semi-finishing of molds, complex 3D parts and 3D prismatic parts.

iMachining 3D operations enable you to perform machining tasks specific to the chosen Technology type. Below the Technology type, the list on the left side of the dialog box provides a workflow for defining the operation and enables you to switch between the following parameters pages:

  • Geometry – this page enables you to define the machining geometry for the operation.
  • Tool – this page enables you to define the tool for the operation.
  • Levels – this page enables you to define the machining levels for the operation.
  • Technology Wizard – this page enables you to select from calculated sets of Cutting conditions that are optimal for your machining case.
  • Technology – this page enables you to define several technological parameters such as offsets, roughing and rest roughing data.
  • Link – this page enables you to define the approach and retreat of the tool and the sorting of tool paths.
  • Motion control – this page enables you to optimize the calculated tool path according to the kinematics and special characteristics of your CNC-Machine.
  • Misc. parameters – this page contains the miscellaneous parameters for the operation.
